Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion
At PBMH and KIMS, the Department of Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) plays a vital role in patient care by ensuring safe, timely, and effective blood transfusion services. Established in 2021, the department is fully equipped to meet the complex transfusion needs of patients, with postgraduate programs initiated from 2022.
The IHBT department ensures the availability of safe and compatible blood and blood components, using advanced techniques like gel technology for pre-transfusion testing. It manages transfusion-related complications and supports various clinical departments including Hematology, Oncology, Surgery, Obstetrics, and Critical Care. The team works closely in managing patients with chronic transfusion requirements such as thalassemia, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, transplant recipients, and alloimmunized pregnancies.
Our department also serves as a referral center for complex transfusion cases, ensuring quality and safety at every step. We promote voluntary blood donation and continuously strive to enhance blood safety and patient care through innovation, collaboration, and compassionate service.
