The Department of Community Medicine, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), in collaboration with the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), successfully conducted a two-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on the theme “Comprehensive Geriatric Care: Advancing Healthcare for the Elderly” on 11th and 12th July, 2025. Held under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sonali Kar, Head of the Department and Organizing Secretary, the event witnessed participation from faculty members across Odisha and featured renowned speakers from AIIMS, Jodhpur. The inaugural session, graced by key dignitaries of KIMS, included traditional rituals and a welcome address highlighting the need for focused geriatric care. The academic sessions covered a wide range of topics such as the National Programme for Elderly Health Care, common geriatric syndromes, cardiovascular disorders, psychiatric issues, orthopedic conditions, vaccination, and palliative care.
The sessions were chaired and facilitated by esteemed professors from KIMS, AIIMS, and other institutions, ensuring in-depth discussions and knowledge sharing. Day one concluded with a thought-provoking panel discussion on integrating geriatric care into medical curricula. Day two featured sessions on ICOPE screening, endocrinology and nutrition in elderly, and a practical hands-on ICOPE workshop, followed by a reflection, feedback, and post-test session. The event concluded with a valedictory function attended by senior faculty members, where appreciation and certificates were extended to participants.
The Department of Community Medicine expresses its heartfelt gratitude to all distinguished speakers, chairpersons, facilitators, and participants whose contributions made the event a success. The CME served as a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and reaffirmed a collective commitment toward enhancing geriatric healthcare in India.
