The Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony for the B.Sc. Nursing (205 students) and GNM (50 students) batches of 2025–26 were held at the Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences.

The programme heralded an important step in the lives of the new nursing students as they formally entered the profession. The event began with the welcome of dignitaries, followed by the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, symbolising knowledge, compassion and the beginning of their journey in healthcare. Prof. Dr. Niyati Das, Principal of KINS, delivered the welcome address. She greeted the guests and spoke about the importance of empathy, discipline and professional commitment in nursing. The ceremony also featured addresses by Renuka Das, Former Principal, College of Nursing, Cancer Hill Hospital, MP, and Gitanjali Mohanta, Nursing Superintendent at Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital. They spoke about the need for ethical practice, patient care and continuous learning in the nursing profession.

The main highlight of the programme was the lamp lighting ceremony, where students lit candles, symbolising the spirit of Florence Nightingale and the sharing of knowledge. This was followed by the oath taking ceremony, administered by Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice-Principal, KINS. The students took a pledge to uphold the values, ethics and responsibilities of the profession in the presence of faculty members and officials from PBMH, KIMS.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. Asokan R, Professor and Head of the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing at KINS. He thanked all the dignitaries, faculty members and students for making the event successful.
